Illinois Rural Water Association is a non-profit organization of rural water and wastewater systems. We provide training and technical assistance throughout the state of Illinois. Membership is open to all organizations and individuals associated with the water and wastewater industry.

 

 

 

 

 


H.R. 7944 – the Water Systems PFAS Liability Protection Act which will provide for statutory protections to shield water systems from liability under CERCLA for PFAS, ensuring that manufacturers and users of these chemicals, not the public, pay for cleanup costs.

We are asking our members to write to their U.S. Representative in Washington D.C. to express your concern over the recent designation of PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances under CERCLA. This designation threatens to place the financial burden of environmental cleanup on water systems and their ratepayers – instead of on the polluters responsible for the contamination.

Please take the short amount of time, to edit this sample letter, to replace and include the proper names and data in the yellow highlighted areas that apply to your community system, and remove the yellow highlights. Then save it as a PDF (important to do this), and attach it to an email to send on to your representative.
